The best dripper for your setup is the one that fits the pipe, supplies the intended watering point and operates within the pressure available. Start with those checks before comparing pack prices. Two emitters that look similar can have different functions.
The practical answer
Choose fixed drippers for known, repeatable output, adjustable heads where individual tuning is useful, and pressure-compensating models only when their operating range suits the layout. The product links below are grouped by those jobs.
Useful product route: Compare the GARDENA 13305-20 pressure-compensating dripper, 13302-20 adjustable endline dripper and 13304-20 adjustable inline dripper against the pressure range and connection layout you need.
The buying decisions at a glance
| Choice | Why consider it? | Check |
|---|---|---|
| Fixed-flow | A specified nominal output makes planning simpler | Required pressure and actual assembled output |
| Adjustable-flow | Lets you change output at an individual point | Adjustment range and how you will measure delivery |
| Pressure compensating | Intended to reduce output variation within its rated pressure range | Minimum and maximum operating pressure |
| Inline or endline | Matches an outlet’s position along a branch or at its end | The manufacturer’s permitted installation arrangement |
Pressure compensation and adjustment are separate features. Some products combine them, while others do not. Neither feature removes the need for filtration, compatible pipework and capacity checks.
Compare specific manufacturer references
GARDENA lists the Adjustable Endline Drip Head 13305-20 with a 0–15 l/h adjustment range. The specified installation uses the end of its 4.6 mm supply pipe, or a prepared connection in its 13 mm connecting pipe. This is a useful example when individual plants need different outputs, but the chosen setting still needs measurement.
The same manufacturer’s range distinguishes the pressure-regulating Endline Drip Head 2 l/h 13302-20 from the adjustable pressure-compensating Endline Drip Head 13304-20. Use those references to locate the correct documentation and avoid buying a similarly named emitter with different behaviour.
Choose in this order
For mixed pots
Adjustable emitters can help when containers differ, provided you can check each output and monitor the plants. Do not assume the cap position is a precise flow measurement. Similar pots can be simpler to manage with a specified fixed output, but container size, growing medium and exposure still affect watering needs. See our container layout guide.
For longer runs or changes in height
Pressure-compensating models may be appropriate where the chosen system permits them, but they need sufficient pressure to operate. They cannot repair an undersized supply, excessive run length or blocked line. Read the pressure compensation explanation alongside the manufacturer limits.
Build a compatible basket
- Record the emitter’s full reference and pack quantity.
- Match the connection with the specified tube and assembly tool.
- Check required pegs, end plugs and branch fittings.
- Confirm filtration and inlet pressure requirements.
- Include spare outlets for later replacement without changing the range accidentally.
Our inline versus endline guide explains placement. Use the tubing and fittings buying guide to check the connections.
