Greenhouse Irrigation Kits: Check Contents Before Buying

The right greenhouse irrigation kit starts with your water source, container count and layout. A kit labelled for 15 plants may be a useful starting point, but its advertised capacity does not confirm that it suits every greenhouse or supplies the volume your plants need.
The practical answer
Choose the kit from its water source, pipe route and included delivery parts, not the advertised plant count alone. A greenhouse with beds needs a different outlet pattern from rows of pots or grow bags.
Useful product route: Compare the Hozelock Easy Drip Universal Kit 7023, Hozelock Easy Drip Micro Kit 7024 and GARDENA 13401-20 set by included pipe, outlets and controller rather than the headline plant count.
Which kit should you shortlist?
| Option | Starting use | Check before ordering |
|---|---|---|
| Hozelock Easy Drip Universal Kit 7023 | Up to 15 containers or 10 m of border, according to Hozelock | Emitter arrangement, included pipe lengths and whether a controller is included |
| Hozelock Easy Drip Micro Kit 7024 | Up to 15 plants; connects to a tap or timer | Branch lengths, tap connection and the exact pack contents |
| GARDENA Balcony Set 13401-20 | Up to 15 potted plants, using 2 l/h pressure-equalising inline heads | Container spacing, route lengths and separate automation requirements |
These are container-watering options to consider for a greenhouse layout, not a claim that one wins every comparison. Our shortlist is based on manufacturer information. Choose the range whose permitted layout fits your plan and whose spare parts you can obtain.
Turn the pack contents into a buying decision
For GARDENA 13401-20, the manufacturer lists 20 m of 4.6 mm pipe, 15 pressure-compensating 2 l/h heads, a Master Unit 1000, ten pegs, five T-joints, five end plugs and two shut-off/regulation valves. A Water Control is an optional addition, not an included timer.
This matters if your pots need different watering frequencies: two manual valves do not give you two independently programmed zones. Also count the actual routes against the 20 m supplied; fifteen outlets do not guarantee enough tubing for fifteen widely separated containers.
The Hozelock summary linked below establishes the advertised plant capacities, but does not provide the complete component lists needed for a like-for-like price verdict. Obtain the exact 7023 or 7024 pack list before choosing either over the GARDENA set.
Tap-fed kit or reservoir system?
A pressurised-tap kit needs a source within its operating requirements. A water butt is a different situation: its available pressure depends on water height, and some equipment needs a suitable pump. Do not buy a tap kit assuming that a raised butt will run it. Read our water-butt irrigation guide first.
Compare the whole basket
Draw the greenhouse route and count the watering points before comparing prices. Include the path from the tap, rather than only the length inside the greenhouse. A cheaper pack can cost more overall if you immediately need supply pipe, extra emitters, connectors, pegs and a timer.
- Check the exact model and included components.
- Match the tube and fittings to one specified range.
- Confirm filtration and pressure reduction requirements.
- Allow access to line ends for maintenance.
- Check controller schedules and power requirements if automating.

Before leaving it unattended
Install and test well before a holiday. Collect representative emitter output, inspect connections and observe the plants through normal watering cycles. Advertised capacity is not a substitute for checking the assembled system. Use our catch-test guide and holiday checklist.
