Which Battery and Charger Fit a GARDENA Water-Butt Pump?

For the GARDENA 2600 Comfort 14604 and 2400 ComfortAutomatic 14605, check for the 18V POWER FOR ALL PBA battery system. The September 2026 pump manual lists PBA 18V 2.5Ah W-B and 4.0Ah W-C batteries as replacement or additional-runtime options. Use a charger approved for that battery type.

Bosch Professional 18V batteries belong to a different system. Do not buy a pump-only package on the strength of “I already own an 18V Bosch battery”. Read the battery and charger labels before choosing the package.

Read the full battery label

Find the system name, PBA type, voltage and capacity on the pack itself. The 14604/14605 manual identifies the 2.5Ah W-B pack as the technical-data example and lists GARDENA articles 14921 and 14922 for 2.5Ah and 4.0Ah respectively. Keep those exact identifiers when comparing replacement offers.

The POWER FOR ALL ALLIANCE compatibility FAQ confirms that its DIY/home-and-garden system is separate from Bosch Professional. It also warns that older partner batteries from before a brand’s transition are not interchangeable merely because the brand now belongs to the alliance.

If your label is worn or the pack is a different type, establish compatibility from the exact battery and pump instructions before ordering Solo. Do not force a pack into the compartment or use an improvised adapter. A compatible battery must also leave the battery-box cover able to close fully as instructed.

Choose capacity for the watering routine

A 4.0Ah pack stores more nominal energy than a 2.5Ah pack at the same voltage. Using voltage × amp-hours gives 72Wh for 18V × 4.0Ah and 45Wh for 18V × 2.5Ah: 60% more nominal energy. That calculation is not a measured increase in pump runtime.

The time available on a charge depends on the pump’s power setting, the connected watering equipment and battery conditions. Choose the pressure needed for the task, then observe the actual complete watering cycle. A larger battery also takes longer to recharge on the same charger.

For short hand-watering sessions with time between uses, a compatible pack you already own may be enough. A second pack becomes useful when another tool needs the same battery, or when your observed watering routine leaves too little time to recharge. If the water butt empties first, buying extra battery capacity will not extend that watering session.

Match the charger to PBA 18V

The manual lists AL 1810 CV, AL 1815 CV, AL 18V-20, AL 1830 CV, AL 1880 CV and AL 18V-44 as appropriate POWER FOR ALL system chargers for its specified 2.5Ah PBA battery. Check the exact charger model and its battery approval; a similarly named charger from another system is not a substitute.

For the AL 1810 CV and AL 18V-20, the published mains rating is 220–240V AC, 50–60Hz. That rating does not identify the physical plug supplied in a particular retail package. For UK use, establish the exact supplied version before purchase.

If both battery and charger are missing, compare them as part of the 2400 ComfortAutomatic Solo-versus-set decision. That avoids choosing a low pump-only price before accounting for the equipment needed to run it.

Allow for cooling and recharging

2.0Ah W-B124 min64 min
2.5Ah W-B154 min79 min
4.0Ah W-C244 min124 min

The 2.0Ah row reproduces the manual’s charger data; it is not an additional pump-battery recommendation. The pump’s named replacement choices above are 2.5Ah and 4.0Ah.

GARDENA also instructs you to let the battery cool for at least 30 minutes after use before charging or storage. Its permissible charging temperature is 0–45°C. Include cooling and charging in your schedule rather than expecting a depleted pack to be immediately ready for another job.

A solid charger light needs to be read with the manual’s explanation: it can indicate a full battery or a battery outside the permitted charging temperature. With no battery fitted, it indicates the charger is connected and ready. If charging fails, check the stated indications before assuming the battery needs replacing.

Keep the power equipment dry

Only the pump goes in the water. The battery and battery box must not be immersed; place or mount the box outside the container in the instructed protected position. Charge indoors, away from moisture, with clean, dry contacts. Follow the manual’s RCD and electrical requirements, and stop using a damaged battery, charger, cable or plug.

Remove the battery and disconnect the pump cable from the battery box before cleaning or attaching accessories. For decommissioning, the pump instructions specify a dry, closed, frost-free storage place for the pump, battery, box and charger.

If a correctly specified battery is charged but the pump still stops or delivers no water, follow the water-butt pump fault checks before buying a replacement pack.
